The fastest man who ever ran on this earth comes from a quiet little district in Trelawny called Sherwood Content. Usain Bolt was born there on 21 August 1986. As a boy he attended Waldensia Primary, and then William Knibb Memorial High School — that is where he started taking track seriously. The coaches saw at once that the tall boy could run endlessly fast. In 2008, at the Beijing Olympics, Bolt won the 100 metres and the 200 metres, and the whole world started watching him. He did it again in London 2012, and once more in Rio 2016 — three Olympics in a row, the same two races, gold every single time. Nobody had ever done that before. In Berlin, in 2009, he set the two world records that still stand today: 9.58 seconds for the 100 metres and 19.19 for the 200. Altogether he holds eight Olympic golds and eleven World Championship titles. He retired after the World Championships in London in 2017. But no matter how far he went, Bolt always honoured his home. He loves to talk about the Trelawny yam and pork that raised him, and he still goes back to Sherwood Content to see his people. As the old folks say, that is where his navel-string is buried.
